This master thesis proposes to develop an analysis of the current situation of Gaia Biennial of Art (GBA) and also the production of contributions for its development. In order to frame the study object, a characterization of art biennials was made using existent bibliography and well-known authors, presenting notable examples of international and Portuguese biennials of art. It is also analysed the entity responsible for the organization of the biennial highlighted in this work, Artistas de Gaia – Cultural Cooperative, and developed a description of GBA from the first to the fourth edition, applying quantitative and qualitative data to do so. Research on public cultural policies relevant for the context of GBA was also made. In addition, field work was developed in the shape of an internship with the Cooperative Artistas de Gaia in 2022, which is also detailed in a chapter of this dissertation. From the research and the analysis made, as well as from the internship experience, a set of contributions was established considering the development and the possible positioning of BGA in the cultural landscape.
