Burnout has been widely studied in the field of psychology, but, nowadays it still is a phenomenon. For this reason, it is necessary to continue studying it in order to better understand protective and risk variables for its development. The relationship between burnout and workload, the meaning of work and self-compassion has been studied in the health field, for example in nurses and doctors. With regard to the organisational context, few studies have focused on these variables. This study aims to investigate the mediating role of the dimensions of self-compassion in the relationship between workload and burnout, as well as in the relationship between the meaning of work and burnout. This study involved 144 participants, who answered an online protocol consisting of: Sociodemographic data questionnaire; Professional characterisation questionnaire; Burnout Assessment Tool (BAT); Work and Meaning Inventory (WAMI); Quantitative Workload Inventory (QWI); Self-Compassion Scale (SCS). The results showed a direct relationship between workload and burnout, mediated by three dimensions of self-compassion: self-criticism, isolation and 3 over-identification. The results highlight the importance of addressing these variables in the organisational context.
