Abstract

This work focuses on the relationship between the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and the international regime of refugee protection. In short, we want to know whether and to what extent can this be studied not only as a regional instrument of international protection of human rights but also as a tool of complementary protection of international refugee law. We intend to cross these two poles, in a multidimensional attempt to build a cohesive and interconnected framework of normative, doctrinal and jurisprudential lines, governing the use of article 3 of ECHR, which prohibits torture and ill-treatment, as a key element in strengthening and consolidating one of the most important rights of refugees: the principle of non-refoulement.
