The dissertation focus on analyzing two soap operas broadcasted on the Angolan channel, ZAP Novelas: Cair em Tentação, Mexican soap opera, and Não Te Deixarei Ir, Turkish soap opera. It studies in detail the reasons why Turkish soap operas are currently gaining so much popularity and attraction with the channel audience. The analysis intends to understand why it is so important for a channel issued in Angola and Mozambique to edit the acquired soap operas, taking into consideration the channel does not broadcast content without detailed previous review, existing a significant level of editing – censorship – in several episodes. First, a literature review was made to better understand the origin of the soap opera, the evolution of the genre and its importance to society. After, the study focuses deeply into the origin of the Mexican and Latin soap operas, being thus the object of the analyzis. The empirical work adopted an interpretative and qualitative approach, based on documentary analysis, direct and indirect observation and an exploratory interview with the director of the channel ZAP Novelas. The investigation concluded that Latin soap operas are target of great criticism from the audience, unlike Turkish soap operas, which are currently a hit with audiences. In addition, the study revealed that Latin soap operas need greater concern in editing content, mainly for their sex scenes and violence. Turkish soap operas do not need much editing and are seen by the audience as "life lessons" and "educational" soap operas.
