Abstract

In this third millennium, gradually coming out of an unforeseen pandemic that has shaken the world and reminds us of the people it has already victimized, and confronted with the episodes of free violence and hatred of the fratricidal conflict that will forever tarnish the history of the people of Eastern Europe, attaching itself to wars that persist in other latitudes of the earth, whose loss of cultural goods and human beings are still difficult to account for, we are summoned to stop and look at the suffering and pain of others, as the traveling Samaritan did. In fact, in the face of the suffering of the other, we are challenged to put ourselves in his place, to look with compassion. It is thus the gaze of the traveling Samaritan who cares for the wounded on the way down from Jerusalem. After all, ins’t this the act and the look of God of Jesus Christ? If we recognize Jesus in the figure of the traveling Samaritan, can we also not see him represented in the person of the wounded? Or was full solidarity with man’s suffering not revealed to us by the God of Jesus Christ in the event of the Cross?
