Abstract

The culture sector, faced the greatest challenge society has ever known due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As a result of this situation and in a moment of great unpredictability, the sector was forced to accelerate its digitalization process, whether in the area of communication, or in distribution. In the performing arts, which constitute our object of study, we find dichotomies at two distinct levels; on the one hand, it is the sector that suffered the most from the pandemic, with the closure of its physical venues, but which in turn also had the ability to benefit from the experience by implementing new communication strategies. Through a mixed methodology, we will learn about these strategies, using three research tools: interviews with communication professionals from cultural institutions; a survey distributed to online users; and an analysis of publications in social media and other digital media. The initial results of our research reveal that the first steps have been taken, but there is still a long way to go, so that all available means in the digital context can contribute to a greater cultural participation by citizens and to the impactof cultural organizations in society.
