When presenting television news, the anchor's verbal and non-verbal communication plays a big role. It is essential that the message is conveyed neutrally to the viewer, for him to make his own opinion about the subject being reported. The focus of this research is to analyse the anchors of public service television, specifically those who present RTP 1's prime-time news programme, Telejornal - José Rodrigues dos Santos, João Adelino Faria and Ana Lourenço. Its main objective is to analyse how nonverbal communication is explored by the anchors of RTP 1's Telejornal. To this end, exploratory interviews were made to the anchors and, subsequently, 110 news items were observed from five prime-time Telejornais presented by these anchors. The main results show that, in general, the non-verbal communication of RTP1 news anchors tends to be neutral, although there are differences between anchors and between the different dimensions of non-verbal communication studied. The dimensions that had a mostly or totally neutral connotation for all the anchors were the mouth and lips, the head and the face in general, while eyebrows and gestures in general, globally, were the only ones that had a significant weight of non-neutral connotation (especially positive). Non-verbal communication with a non-neutral, negative connotation was very low and was more associated with specific moments in unforeseen situations.
