Abstract

The present report is about a Master’s degree in Nursing, with Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing, which evidence the main contributes to the internship modules, for the development of specialized competences on medical surgery nursing. The internship was divided in two modules on which the first one took place on a urgency care service and second one on a intensive care service and a cardiothoracic intensive care unit between September 10th 2018 and January 5th 2019. The main goal of this document is to describe learning experiences, to show the acquire skills, to reflect and analyze the activities on which I was involved, to describe improve situations that I witness, passable of being solved, and its respective strategies solutions, having in sight the enhancement of quality and safety of given nursery care, and this document can also be used as an evaluation tool. The methodology used is the descriptive and critical reflexive method, and structurally is divided in four chapters. In the introduction part it is made a framework of the report, the internship and its goals; in the second chapter, it is made a description of the characteristic of the different places of the internship and a exhibition and a reflexive analyses of the activities, looking to achieve the outlined goals and common competences of specialized nurse established by Order of Nurses. Finally, at the conclusion I try to underline the professional development based on the acquired skills. There are four domains of the common competences of specialized nurse being them the professional, ethical and legal responsability domain, the continued improvement quality domain, the care management domain and lastly, in the development of professional learning domain. The training was developed based on identified training needs of each internship. Three workshop sessions were planned and executed entitled: “NIV Principles”; “Communication with the multidisciplinary team – importance for patient safety” and “Approach to the family of the critically ill patient”. Through this journey i was able to develop skills which allow to provide differentiated humanized care to the critical ill patient.
