Abstract

This Reflexive Report subject is “The construction of a professional identity: the reflection of the social pedagogue in the education/formation of adults.” The ambit of this reflection pretends to evoke our professional growth which is based in the constant search of professional formation so that it’s possible to solidify our identity as a professional and pretends as well to evoke the meditation about the movement of questioning which structures and underpins our action and strengthens the compromise we assume as professionals who work in behalf of an active and solidarity community. The objective of this reflection is to improve our action and our professional development. In doing so, we establish a dialectic relationship between practice and theory, becoming more sensible and profound. In Social Pedagogy we have found the link between the practice of Social Education and mentor’s practice. Thus, we can legitimate our intervention without ever losing simultaneously, our course and the goals of Education and Formation of Adults, and our core education in Social Education. Therefore, Social Pedagogy has allowed us to develop our professional identity as a mentor and pedagogue in the dominion of the education and formation of adults. This way, to generate competencies that are more effective is our purpose and it’s what ultimately triggers in us the desire of continuous professional formation. To sustain our line of thinking we rely on the paradigm of lifelong education since Education and learning is not a product of a specific stage of life, they extend itself throughout life. Education must be at the service of truth and thus at the service of a growing solidarity citizenship. It is interchanging the ideals of lifelong education that we can conjugate our professional formation and our action.
