Abstract

The present internship report has as its main theme the construction of the news narrative in television, focusing on the specific case of the “Jornal da Noite” of the Portuguese channel SIC. The 6 months internship was done in SIC's editorial department and it was paramount to observe, learn and develop the way we transform the events into news. This work establishes how the history and the speech go hand in hand with the narrative construction of the news in television, mainly, the textual, sound and image resources that take place there. It also reflects in the processes, models and other narrative construction elements, that confer intelligibility to television news. With this idea in mind, the theoretical framework of this work focuses on the matter of the influence of the productive routines in the definition and choice of events to be processed in a journalistic point of view, as well as the importance of the construction of a narrative speech for the news. The empirical analysis has as its body of study 140 news of the “Jornal da Noite” of the Portuguese channel SIC, broadcasted between March 12 to the 18th of 2012, categorized into six themed areas: Society, Politics, Economy, Sport, Culture and Faits-divers. From the results obtained it was concluded that, in spite of every news being unique and singular, there is a typical narrative construction in the news of each themed area. However, there are notorious differences of construction if we compare the six themed areas, reflecting the sort of journalistic work that is done around the different events.
