Abstract

Psychological violence is recognized, both by the Portuguese legal system, by international legal instruments and by the WHO, as one of the forms of manifestation of violence, being established in the law, directly or indirectly. This can go unnoticed, as it often lacks the physical aspect, the one most associated with the concept of violence, and because its consequences do not present visible marks, however, they’re just as serious. In this way, this dissertation deals with this matter in order to analyze the peculiarities of this type of violence and identify the need for autonomy of the legal type of psychological violence, having as inspiration article 147.º-B of the Brazilian Criminal Code.
