The main objective of this investigation is the study of the manifestation of depressive symptoms on institutionalized and non-institutionalized children, considering aspects of the general life of the subjects: age (11-15, 16-19), gender (feminine) and place of residence (institutionalized,non-institutionalized). The study consisted of the application of the Depression Inventory for Children (CDI) and the Self-Assessment Questionnaire for Young People (YSR). As far as the sample was concerned, there were 50 children and adolescents, all of them female, aged between 11 and 19 years. Of these 50 children, 18 were institutionalized and 32 were non-institutionalized. It was verified through the analysis of the data that there were statistically significant differences in the CDI according to the place of residence and age, both compared to the noninstitutionalized young institutionalized. According to the results obtained by the YSR analysis, there were statistically significant differences in relation to the scores of the variable of residence and age compared to the institutionalized and non-institutionalized young people. In general, it is concluded that the majority of the study population presents absence of depressive disorder.
