A enfermagem e a qualidade do cuidado especializado

Abstract

This report represents the result of the master’s degree “Curso de Mestrado em Enfermagem área de Especialização em Enfermagem Médico-Cirúrgica” granted by the Universidade Católica Portuguesa. It is also intended to reflect critically on the activities developed, as well as the acquisition and development of scientific, technical, relational and human skills, specialized in the area of Medical-Surgical Nursing. This master’s degree includes three stages: emergency department, intensive care unit and optional. Since one of my areas of interest is the Operative Block, I opted to perform the optional stage in the Operative Block, also thinking about the possibility of working in this area in the near future. Up to now I held positions for a period of five years in emergency service. However, I believe that it is our responsibility to monitor the progress of new technologies and the relearning of new ways of acting, theories and techniques in an increasingly specialized nursing in these days, even more so in a very young phase of career in which we have to consolidate our practices and their theoretical basis In these days, more and more, we have to make sure that all the care provided is properly grounded in solid and safe knowledge. Portuguese Order of Nurses believes that the specialist nurse in critical situation is the one who mobilizes multiple knowledge and skills to respond in a timely and holistic manner to the complexity of health situations and to the person in critical disease situation and / or organic failure and his family. Therefore, I acted in the sense of incorporating the knowledge and developing skills, in order to provide care in the various situations to the critical patient.
