Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to allow an analysis of portuguese companies' IDE, with particular emphasis in Brazil, as well as, in parallel with the internship that was conducted, to point out the issues that portuguese companies come across when they reach the Brazilian market. Some suggestions and possible solutions are proposed to solve these setbacks. The research for this paper consisted in an exhaustive literature review and in the interview of two major organisms, the Portuguese Embassy in Brasilia and the Chamber of Commerce Center-West, and one company, Unicer. The key findings about what would be the main setbacks that portuguese companies would come across when entering the Brazilian market are the excess bureaucracy, the brazilian protectionism about its own business, the complexity of the fiscal and tributary system and the difficulty in obtaining any kind of visa. Thus, we conclude that is necessary to tune AICEP, the Chambers of Commerce and the Embassy's strategies in order to support and allow a better and faster access to the brazilian market. This would complement the already existing agreements between the two countries and would be a step forward putting down the barriers to enter Brazil. It is highly necessary to expedite the constitution of enterprises and visa requests.
