This report aims to show my intervention and participation, as a kindergarten teacher, in a management body called - Advisory Council - and what is its power and recognition as a valid agent in the dynamics of an early childhood establishment, from the perspective of the role of families in decision-making moments. School-community relations, particularly parental involvement in the educational process, have been shrouded in paradoxical antagonisms. The recognition of the importance of parental participation in school, either through legislation or discourse from various quarters, has not corresponded to the sustained practice of democratization of schools, enshrining a community involvement in the organization and operation of their educational projects. The school and the family have undergone profound changes throughout history. These changes end up interfering in the role each one plays in the educational process and inthe dynamics of the relationship between them.In an introspective way, I intend to address the barriers to parental involvement in school, the reality found in different schools at the organizational level and highlight the potential of an effective participation of parents and communities in the life of schools.
