Abstract

The following document was prepared under the Master's Degree in Nursing with a Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing and aim to demonstrate the development of specialized skills in medical-surgical nursing throughout the Internship modules. These modules took place in the Local Coordinating Group of the Program for the Prevention and Control of Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance and in an Intensive Care Unit, between 7 September and 9 December 2020. With yours it is intended: to critically assess the achievement of the objectives defined in the internship project; globally and critically analyse the skills development process during the internship and justify the options and activities developed in the scientific evidence resulting from the literature reviews carried out, in the applicable ethical criteria and in the efficient management of available resources. In its elaboration, I adopted a descriptive and critical-reflexive methodology, supported by bibliographic research, using databases, periodical publications and research work. In addition to these resources, I highlight learning opportunities in the context of practice. This report is divided into four chapters. In the introduction, the stage and objectives are framed; in the second chapter, the specifics of the different internship locations are described; in the third chapter, a critical-reflexive description and analysis of the activities carried out is carried out, in order to achieve the previously outlined objectives, and the acquisition of the common skills of the specialist nurse and specifics of the Medical Surgical Nursing Specialist, instituted by the Order of Nurses . In the domain of professional, ethical and legal responsibility, situations that address respect for the patient's autonomy and intimacy, the duty of professional secrecy, the duty to inform, and presumed consent are narrated and dissected. In the field of continuous quality improvement, activities aiming at the quality and safety of care are highlighted, simultaneously, opportunities for improvement are identified and resolution strategies are set out, within the scope of infection prevention and control, work methodology, training in evidence-based service and practice. In the field of care management, collaboration and interest in understanding the whole process of managing a service is highlighted, and finally, in the domain of the development of professional learning, the activities aimed at the development of communication skills are listed, and the process of personal and professional self-development, as well as, it seeks to demonstrate the ability to react to unforeseen and complex situations. Finally, at the conclusion I approach my professional development in the light of the acquired skills. As a contribution to the contexts of the practice, after identifying the opportunities for improvement, I created two posters on the “Safe use of elevators”. I also planned and developed a training course on “Resistance to antimicrobials - New Delhi Metalo-betalactamase. I also created a working instruction on “Hydrogen Peroxide decontamination. Finally, I wrote an integrative literature review on “The use of Helmet CPAP in ventilation in COVID-19 patients” Having completed the course, I believe I am able to provide specialized care in Medical-Surgical Nursing, based on practice based on scientific evidence.
