The fast transformation of work is an important issue that not only affects the lives of companies and their employees, but also stands out on the political agenda of governments. As a result of labour flexibility, the management of human resources gained complexity and became trapped between, on one hand, the challenges of competitiveness faced by companies, and, on the other hand, the current legal framework. However, both economies, as a whole, and the companies, on a microeconomic level, work properly provided the principles of social justice and the workers' rights and are ensured. This is why labour inspection plays a quintessential role for the sake of decent work. The present paper, aiming at analysing the role played by labour inspection with regard to employment flexibility, will describe some of the labour market changes and reveal how globalisation has shaped and deregulated them, together with other factors such as technological change, new occupational risks, employment relations’ fragmentation and the weakening of traditional partners. The above mentioned subjects will be put in perspective with reference to academic articles, official reports and some statistical evidence. Therefore, in order to handle efficiently with labour flexibility, it will be concluded that labour inspection ought to be opened to learning and innovation, as well as to communicate appropriately the solutions designed to address the circumstances where the infringement of workers' rights occur or is likely to occur.
