Schools, whose principal aim is to develop public education, from an organizational point of view, combine management practices with flexible capacities, structures and also more integrated procedures. This report focuses on our experiences and the knowledge gained throughout our professional career as we analyse and reflect on how management teams, namely executive presidents and directors, provide management and leadership, how they interact with the various agents/educational partners and how these interact with the school itself. These interactions in the school community and the management practices developed in the school are found in the current framework of school management for pre-school, primary and secondary education as set up by the autonomous regime. The executive presidents/directors of the schools play a fundamental role in the creation of a school culture that encourages the participation of the school community beyond the merely bureaucratic and formal, as required under the law, and promotes teamwork by means of internal policies.
