Abstract

The main subject of this Master degree thesis is the democratic management, its applicability and the study of the practical field on democratic management at school with the objective to improve the educational and administrative quality, at CEP Escola de Música de Brasília. Therefore, it starts from the following problem: does democratic management contribute to obtain quality results? The main objective aims to elucidate questions that will concern democratic management as a management model wich can contribute to obtain results. To achieve the general objective, a theoretical and methodological path was organized. The methodology is based on the qualitative approach. A questionnaire was applied to teachers and the general community of CEP EMB, an interview with restricted number of managers at the central level of SEEDF, as well as observation at school board meetings. The results demonstrate that although there is still a long way to go in order to consolidate democratic management at CEP EMB, it is undeniable that the educational and administrative quality is the result and depends on the practice of the school manager. The implementation of democratic management at CEP EMB resulted in more collective actions and decisions with satisfactory results.
