Abstract
The need for the IPSS to constantly question, evaluate, adapt and evolve in relation to its professionals' personal skills and abilities is recognized. The new challenges of the IPSS focus on the need for specialized professional training. At the same time, weaknesses emerge that must be rethought and carefully observed: motivation, job satisfaction and the possible existence of Burnout, variables that can impact the entire functioning within the context of an Private Social Solidarity Institutions (PSSI) and the social responses offered to its target population. The present investigation intends to study whether human resources, namely Directors/Management, Technical Staff and Operational Team of the Portuguese PSSI are prepared to respond to the challenges imposed by ageing. The sample of the present study consisted of 234 participants who, through Google Forms, completed the protocol of selected instruments. Participants are exclusively active workers in PSSI in the area of ageing. Half of the participants reported having attended less than 35 hoursof training in the last year. It was verified, through the data obtained, the existence of low levels of amotivation and higher levels of intrinsic motivation and introjected regulation, mainly in
the positions of managers and directors. There were also lower levels of job satisfaction and mild levels of burnout. Regarding correlations, the educational level seems to be a factor that
correlates with satisfaction, motivation and burnout. Professional training is perceived as a protective factor against job demotivation and enhancing professional abilities, which prevents emotional and physical exhaustion in the workplace.
