The primary objective of this study focuses on understanding and evaluatingthe importance of leadership in teams within organizations. In the literature, the role ofleadership has been highlighted as being decisive in the functioning of organizations toimprove not only the performance of members but also as a means of alleviatingpossible labor disagreements that may arise in the team. In the present study, with asample of 169 Portuguese workers, the relationship between transformational leadershipand the quality of the team relationship (i.e., Team-Member Exchange – TMX) wasanalyzed, as well as the relationship between transactional leadership and the quality ofthe team relationship (i.e., TMX). The results of the present study showed the two ofleadership as contributing positively to the quality of the team. However, when the twostyles of leadership were analyzed at the same time, that is, included in the sameconceptual model, the positive relationship ceases to exist.
