This dissertation is about the educational path of young students that are unmotivated to learning, and it presents an alternative developed by schools in order to overcome the lack of academic achievement. With that aim in mind, this work will analyse the life experience of students, and it will discuss how schoolchildren envision the pedagogical interaction established between them and their teachers, and how this relation is able to stimulate academic success. This subject is particularly important due to the fact that it can contribute to identify the problems that have caused school failure in the past, and to evaluate how alternative learning models can be applied. The empirical analysis of this dissertation will be divided into two parts. The first one discusses the academic and sociodemographic elements of schoolchildren, whose ages are comprised between 12 and 15. The data has been gathered in a school wherein I have worked for a few years, and have been class advisor. The profile of those students have helped to define the starting point of the sec-ond part of this dissertation, which is the empirical study developed in the final chapter and where the schoolchildren’s expectations, their academic path, and the meaning of the interaction established between student and professor are scrutinised. The data was gathered through interviews made to 9 young children based on the interview guide “life-story interview” created by McAdams (2000). Even though only a small number of students have been interviewed, it is be-lieved that the results would be very similar if the enquiry would be applied to a larger population. Nevertheless, one would recommend future research in order to confirm the success and advantages of this pedagogical relationship.
