This qualitative study aimed to understand teachers' perspectives on what constitutes and the importance of Safe Teaching, as well as to comprehend the perspectives of teachers and families on the factors that facilitate or hinder its development. Based on two guides developed by the Let’s Care project, two focus group discussions and four individual interviews were conducted, involving 13 teachers and four parents with at least one child attending the 1st Cycle of Basic Education. Data analysis followed a deductive process, using a top-down perspective, starting from what the researchers defined a priori to be found in the data to meet the study's objectives. The results highlighted the fundamental role of the teacher and the quality of the teacher student relationship, which can influence the student's emotional security and, consequently, their academic performance. This study emphasizes the importance of teachers' characteristics and skills, such as empathy and listening ability, to create a safe educational environment, stressing the need to know each student individually and adapt teaching methods to the needs of the class. It also underscores challenges such as academic difficulties, bullying, and lack of time for interactions, pointing to the importance of personalized strategies and collaboration with professionals like psychologists to promote an inclusive and safe school environment. As implications, it is suggested to develop intervention and training programs for teachers that aim to improve both the teacher-student relationship and the family-school relationship, as this also proves to facilitate Safe Teaching.
