Abstract

This internship report focuses on the strategic importance of the adherence to organizational values by employees for their organizational commitment, and consequently for their performance. This theme was explored under an internship at Galp Energia in the area of Internal Communications and Corporate Volunteering (CI) of the Direccção de Assuntos Institucionais (DIA), during six months (1st April to 1st October 2013). Galp Energia is a company with over 150 years of history, whose activities currently include the exploration and production of oil and natural gas, refining and distribution of petroleum products, distribution and sale of natural gas and electric power generation. Galp Energia recognizes the importance of having highly motivated employees and aligned with organizational objectives, starting from values shared by all. In this context, the project Valores 20+ Galp Energia, developed in partnership with the Institute of Economics and Management (ISEG), aimed at the alignment of organizational values with the strategy for 2020, revisiting the organizational values and promoting change. The research presented is a continuation of this project, assessing how the new values were perceived by employees after communication measures in this direction, as well as, if they are rooted. Additionally, we intended to also check if a correlation exists between adherence to the values and organizational commitment. The methodology used was documentary analysis of all the information on the project Valores 20+ and the application of a questionnaire to a sample of employees of the company and the results of this method were conducting a hypothesis test and analysis correlation. The results revealed the existence of a correlation between adherence to the values and organizational commitment. This conclusion reiterates the profound dimension of values and the need for organizational commitment to work steadily over time.
