Abstract

The transformations in society, teaching and work contexts have modified the professional relations of nurses, inducing a period of identity crisis prolonged in time within these professionals. Nurses in the face of socio-economic-political and organizational constraints are going through a stage of identity transitions. The object of study of this thesis - the influence of leaderships in the professional identity of nurses - becomes relevant for the nurses to recognize their bridges of influence and the processes that allow profession to develop a leadership identity in nursing. The theoretical framework deals with the process of identities (re)construction, specifically the professional identities, contextualizes the profession in the history of Nursing and in society, and tries to understand the process of leadership and the possible actors involved in this process. This a cross-sectional descriptive study of qualitative nature based on the EgoEcological Theory of Zavalloni and Louis-Guérin and on the Theory of Dubar's biographical and relational identities. The research was divided in two stages with a nonprobabilistic sample by networks. In the first stage, the Psychosocial Identity Inventory of Zavalloni and Louis-Guérin was used, with the participation of 102 nurses. In the second stage, 19 participants, from the first stage, concluded the Method of Representational Contextualization with Associative Networks Analysis. The first stage of the study identifies the most prevalent professional identities of the sample - Maintenance Identity, Relational Identity, Professionalization Identity and Negotiation Identity - framing them in the social construction systems coexisting today, to understand the professional implications and influences in the social representations of the participants. The second stage of the study presents the professional influences in the educational and work contexts that trigger identity transitions, with the recognition of the importance of the dynamic interconnections of the subjects' identities in their types of relationship. Nurses' professional references were also identified in informal leaders - clinical leaders and formal leaders - nurse-heads and nursing professors, such as the commonalities and referential particularities of these “agents of change”, and their leadership processes. The results obtained allowed to prospect a model for Developing a Leadership Identity in Nursing, with important implications for the provision of nursing care, management, teaching, training and research.
