Abstract

The purpose of this study is to understand the influence of of the conflict between work and family life on the career of workers in managerial positions. In order to answer the research question, the methodological choice fell on the Qualitative Meta Analysis (QMA), since the literature still presents imprecise results on this theme. In view of this, it was possible to gather, synthesize and interpret the results of primary studies published from 2015 onwards. The QMA included a total sample of 31 articles, selected after strict compliance with the QMA protocol, having used the content analysis technique to study, in a detailed way, the information of the selected articles. The results reveal that conflict is of growing importance in society, since it has significant consequences in both professional and personal environments, manifesting results at the level of health, productivity, turnover and family well-being. When work takes priority over the family, conflict emerges among workers, especially among those in leadership positions. Since they are more committed to their work responsibilities, they end up putting family responsibilities in second place. The problems inherent in this conflict are family stress (including affective parental and marital stress, family distress and quality of family life), as well as work-related stress, leading to neglect with regard to career progression.
