In this dissertation we approach the musical dictation and musical reading in the Formação Músical class through the usage of technological resources as mobile devices with earphones. After a bibliographic analysis of various authors and researchers about the learning, development of musical perception, a study is developed in order to verify the viability of using mobile devices as complementary didactic resources in the class. The research followed a qualitative paradigm and had as methodology the case study. This study is empirically supported by a set of 18 students from the Portuguese 9th elementary degree of Formação Musical. The following instruments were used for the data collection: initial and final inquiries, pre and post assessments, interviews, field observations (focus groups). Despite the limitations of this study, the obtained results show that mobile devices may be considered as didactic resources in the class. The inherent affinity young students have with these devices suggests they represent a potential improvement on the involvement of these student in the class and in the development of music dictation and musical reading. Being this a relatively unexplored field in Portugal, this research intends to contribute to the development of the Formação Músical class both from a didactical and pedagogical point of view.
