Abstract

The objective of this dissertation is to analyse the internationalization process of Salsa, a Portuguese company specialized in denim clothing, including the motivations that triggered it, the entry modes used, and the barriers faced, determining its compatibility with the main theories and models of internationalization. To achieve this end, a case study on Salsa was conducted, based on a semi structured interview with the main responsible for its internationalization. Through this study, it was possible to observe that Salsa's decision to internationalize was mainly influenced by the saturated domestic market and the founder’s proactivity. The results of this study also suggest that none of the dominant models can exclusively explain the internationalization process of the company studied, contributing to the literature that advocates a holistic view of internationalization models, by considering the arguments of all models rather than just one.
