Abstract

This final report concludes the Supervised Teaching Practice (STP) carried out at the Salesianos de Manique – School, as part of the Master's Degree in Religious Sciences. It highlights the teaching of Teaching Unit 3, The Sharing of Bread, as part of the Religious Studies syllabus for the 6th grade, as a contribution to the pedagogical experience of promoting empathy. Empathy is a moral emotion present in all human beings from birth, developing as the child grows. As the ability to put oneself in the other person's shoes, empathy does not manifest itself automatically. Although it is innate, it needs to be worked on in the various social groups the child or young person is in, namely the family and school. Bearing in mind the itinerary that Teaching Unit 3 offers in terms of the meal, it became pertinent to analyse how empathy manifests itself at this particular moment of encounter and what repercussions this analysis could have in the context of teaching the unit, with the support of effective pedagogical strategies, such as the game. Among various conclusions, this work confirms the relevance of this teaching unit in developing empathic capacity in students, as it promotes the discovery of self and the need to reach out to the other on the periphery, showing the responsibility that each person has in caring for the other, in building the common good and in implementing a culture that is truly one of encounter.
