A Misericórdia como categoria política
: um estilo de vida redefine o papel da educação nas sociedades

Student thesis: Doctoral Thesis

Abstract

This work intends to test the thesis of Educational Systems finalities that defines employment as the main education purpose. After studying the legislation regarding the Portuguese Educational System (from the Basic Law of 1986 to the Inclusive School, 2018) on behalf of the analysis of its purposes, we will discuss it in terms of an ethical criterion, Mercy as a Lifestyle and a political category. This political category, which seeks inclusion, based on the Meeting Culture, promotes the strengthening of democracy, as it emanates from the Magisterium of Pope Francis, through the answers it offers regarding the resolution of the injustice and marginality that characterize complex societies. We will conclude with the possible need to review the purposes of education, as explained by educational policies in Portugal, in order to facilitate the guarantee of social cohesion and political democracy. We will propose an integration, in the Portuguese Educational System, of the Learning-Service Pedagogy, from the vision of education for democracy by John Dewey, by the answers it offers to schooling and education of students, as well as their civic training, taking into account the perspective of cooperative pedagogy emanating from Jerome Bruner. Likewise, we will highlight the transformative effects it produces at the organizational level and in the surrounding community.
