Abstract

Bilingual co-productions, mostly in fiction series, between Portugal and Spain, have marked the sector's activity in both countries and moved agreements between producers and public service channels on both sides of the border. The ‘Raia’, as the dividing line between Portugal and Spain is called, unites territories, but also stories, languages, and television producers who increasingly, with local stories, aim to reach the scene and a global audience. This work aims to analyze how the bilingual narrative is thought and produced in international co-production products between Portugal and Spain and to understand the current situation of these co-productions, to know the factors involved in their realization and, finally, to understand the objectives of the co-producers when enter into bilingual coproduction agreements. To achieve what was proposed, this research used qualitative methods such as bibliographical research, content analysis of series co-produced between Portugal and Spain through viewing the episodes and identifying bilingual and multilingual dialogues and, finally, interviews with six (6) television producers: three (3) Portuguese and (3) Spanish. In this way, it was understood that they are made possible by proximity factors, with initiatives that stimulate them and that, with an organic and quality history, have the possibility of reaching the global stage.
