Abstract

This research examines the landscape of S. João da Pesqueira over a historical period of about seven thousand years. This close relationship resulted in assets that are the object of a proposal for management and valuation. Having as object of study S. João da Pesqueira and the palimpsest that form its history, it is important to relate these moments in the Douro context. Initially, we defined the trajectory that unites the concept of monument to the cultural landscape and through it, we try to interpret the patrimonialized landscape of Douro, geographic, social, economic, historical and cultural reality in which S. João da Pesqueira is located. In this reality we carry out an experiential evolution of the territory, the conjugation between rural and urban, its specificities and interdependencies. This relationship will determine the characteristics of the future territory and the different thicknesses of the moments of its history. Territory unapologetically daily builders heritage in the space of production and life, long relationship of interdependence between people and landscape. These moments and their heritage resources, dispersion, location and characteristics in this territory represent this cultural reality. Its spaciousness and representativeness are carefully analyzed on the scale of the territory. To these resources can be associated challenges. To S. João da Pesqueira becomes necessary to manage them and value them the scale and specificity on the significance and cultural value of the Douro. Through a perspective and overview of the evaluation of the existing management, the recommendation of an operative chain in the figure of the local municipality, are perspectived proposed management and valuation for the assets that are part of this cultural reality.
