Abstract

The pandemic caused by the coronavirus forced the change of many routines and rapid changes in the daily lives of the entire population, but affecting the parents of children with special needs, and the same, in a more challenging way. The present study aims to evaluate the well­being and quality of life of parents at the current moment, which is marked by SARS­CoV­2, evaluating differences in the well­being and quality of life of parents with children with special needs, as well as the perception of the impact that Covid­19 had on the parenting style adopted by parents, which consequently can have an impact on the well­being and quality of life of their children. Therefore, a quantitative study was carried out, in which 121 parents of children with EN participated, to which the following instruments were applied: Personal well­being index and Quality of family life. Data were analyzed with the Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) software, and the perception of the impact of the pandemic, both on the well­being and quality of life of parents, as well as the influence of the existence of positive social and family support and support for the well­being and quality of life of these parents. This study made it possible to verify significant negative relationships between the pandemic and the well­being of parents with children with EN, as well as with their quality of life. It was also possible to verify that the pandemic had a negative impact on the parenting style of parents, which changed significantly.
