A pertinência de uma escola profissional na Região de Lamego

Abstract

The vocational schools have emerged to respond to an explicit social request and respond to many problems of many families, teenagers and young people, and constitutes a new field of guidance opportunities for school and professional life and a springboard for many teens gain self-esteem and ability to exercise active and responsible citizenship. As the results achieved were largely favorable, the government decided to extend the vocational education to the public secondary education. In the academic year 2004/2005, new vocational courses were opened in Public Secondary Schools, without taking into consideration the formative offer of Private Vocational Schools.
With this study, it was intended to know if the respondents consider important a Private Vocational School in Lamego, through a qualitative approach, developing the case study method, using an interview to parents, students, teachers and entrepreneurs.
In relation to the general objective of this study, it was concluded that, mostly, respondents consider relevant a Private Vocational School in Lamego, due to long experience of such schools. Another conclusion from this study is that the educational agents are in agreement about the formative practice of vocational education, considering it fairly important. However, they also consider negative to open these courses in secondary schools, due to the fact that they don't have pedagogical experience, do not prepare young people for the world of work and because they only merely care about with statistical data, unlike vocational schools that already have more than two decades of experience.
