The concept of nursing presence assumes the development of an interpersonal relationship during nursing care that is capable of producing positive and significant outcomes in the health status of the child and/or young person. It is possible to apply nursing presence as a therapeutic resource, which occurs when nurses and the dyad (child and parents) are mutually available for reciprocal communication. It implies the establishment of a personal connection beyond sharing lived experiences and involves active listening, attention, intimacy, therapeutic touch, spiritual exploration, empathy, affection, compassion, and recognition of the psychological, psychosocial, and physiological needs of the dyad. The overall objective of this report is to develop the competencies of the paediatric specialist nurse, mobilizing the concept of nursing presence in light of Paterson and Zderad's theory of humanistic care, in various placement contexts, namely, Paediatric Emergency Department, Paediatric Ward, and Neonatal Unit, in order to contribute to the promotion of humanized nursing care in paeds. Using a project methodology, specific objectives and activities were established for each placement context to be achieved, supported by the most recent scientific evidence. Throughout the placement, organizational charts, work instructions, educational materials, and training were provided, as well as strategies that facilitate and promote dialogue between nurse-dyad, such as the use of therapeutic toys and nursing presence in storytelling directed to the child and/or young person. The result of this report enables a reflective analysis of all activities carried out during the development process of the necessary skills, as well as the identification of the competencies of the paediatric specialist nurse. Furthermore, it´s also important to be aware of the common competencies of the specialist nurse acquired through their implementation, with a focus on the humanization of care provided to children/young people/parents/family.
