Dominant influence relationships have a cross-sectional character and, as such, are evident in several areas of Law. However, this paper only addresses this institute’s analysis within Portuguese corporate law, namely, as far as the Commercial Companies’ Code and the Portuguese Securities Market’s Code are concerned. Therefore, we try to establish the features that characterize or limit this institute, ascertain the means through which we can establish dominant influence relationships and determine the legal consequences that are associated with such relationships. Through this analysis, we answer a question asked frequently: why has the Portuguese legislator created two different provisions or two diverse regimes concerning the same reality?
