Noise is one of the occupational hazards to which workers are most frequently exposed to. Despite extensive literature on its physical dimension (objective noise) and consequent impact on individuals’ health, the interaction between noise perception, and psychological and contextual variables is still poorly understood. Thus, this thesis intends to examine the relation between the perception of occupational noise (PRO) and occupational stress (SO), as well as the moderating role of noise sensitivity (SIR) and job satisfaction (ST) in this relationship. In order to accomplish this aim, 67 questionnaires were collected in industrial contexts in northern Portugal. Descriptive, correlation and moderation analysis were performed. The results showed that there is no significant relation between PRO and SO and between PRO and ST. However, there was a significant interaction between PRO and SIR. It can be concluded that individual and contextual factors can contribute to modify the relation between noise perception and occupational stress, emphasizing the importance of studying the idiosyncrasies of each worker in assessing the impact of occupational noise.
