The conversation surrounding the balancing between one’s personal life and work has sparked an interest in many researchers, not only due to the high standards the job market places upon its professionals, but also considering the need for care and attention that modern families demand. As such, this report was focused on analyzing the relation between expatriation and work/family dynamics, to better understand this interaction and its consequences. To that end, a sample of 10 Portuguese expatriated citizens (at the time of this survey) was studied, using qualitative methodological tools by means of semi-structured interviews. The results have shown that, despite the existence of aspects of their professional life that have a negative work/family impact, such as physical and/or emotional fatigue, there are also positive characteristics, like the opportunity for career growth. We also concluded that, although some companies neglect “family-friendly” policies, the clear majority provides support (financial or through work policies), to its expatriated workers.
