A satisfação sexual e coping em mulheres mastectomizadas

Abstract

Cancer is a dreaded disease by all, despite the advances of science and reducing the number of deaths due to this disease. Despite their biological and genetic, found referenced in the literature also its psychological component. In this sense, the psychological factors associated with cancer, the aim of this study is to assess sexual satisfaction and coping in women diagnosed with breast cancer mastectomy in order to know their role in adaptation to this condition. This is a quantitative, correlational, cross-sectional study with a sample of 43 women, a central hospital in northern Portugal. From the results obtained, it appears that participants have satisfactory sexual level results, and all areas have higher than the average subscale scores. The highest values were the domain of the relationship in general and the lowest result, although still above average, was in the field of sexual relationship. Regarding the results of the coping questionnaire found that areas with high results are religion and the acceptance and the lower are the use of substances, disinvestment, self -blame and use instrumental support. When we analyze the differences between the participants underwent partial and total mastectomy did not find significant level of sexual satisfaction differences. Meanwhile, with regard to the dimensions of Cope significant difference was found only at the level of the expression of feeling. Analysis of associations between sexual satisfaction and coping variables, the sample generally found that the higher the confidence, self-esteem and relationship in general the higher the mood subscale of the coping. We also found associations between variables taking into account the participants that the partial and total mastectomies were submitted, with the first show a positive association between confidence and mood. In turn , the users who were undergoing total mastectomy was found negative associations between trust and disinvestment , between self-esteem and self -blame , denial and disinvestment and the relationship between general and disinvestment . Finally, the level of variation in the results depending on sociodemographic variables only found significant differences between the younger and older at the level of sexual satisfaction and coping strategy of “religion " women. It is hoped that this research is a contribution level of knowledge in the area of health, in the theme of breast cancer.
