Food supply chains are constantly challenged by changing consumer demands. In order to respond safely and sustainably, it is essential to implement environmental and social sustainability strategies that ensure efficient operations. The overall aim of this dissertation is to analyse how companies in the food sector are implementing sustainability practices throughout their supply chain and how technology is supporting this process. Specific objectives include identifying the commitments made by companies, the implementation of initiatives and the role of technology in promoting sustainability. The study follows a qualitative approach, using content analysis of the sustainability reports of large companies in the food sector. Throughout the dissertation, the importance of sustainability in food supply chains is highlighted, as is the way in which technology can help to implement sustainability strategies over time. Sustainability is playing an increasingly central role in business, making it essential to integrate social and environmental objectives, mitigate risk and promote an organisational culture based on collaboration and innovation. However, companies face challenges in implementing sustainability strategies. Finally, limitations of the study include the diversity of information disclosure formats and the lack of transparency on the use of technology in supply chains. For future research, we suggest a more in-depth analysis of the role of emerging technologies in sustainability, studies on the evolution of sustainable strategies over time, and stakeholders' perceptions of the transparency and effectiveness of sustainable and technological supply chains.
