The pandemic crisis has had serious consequences all over the world which led to drastic changes on how companies work and how consumers behave. Whilst it is predicted a return to the pre-pandemic normality, companies are still facing a huge challenge on how to plan their future operations. Although this seems like a different crisis than any other ever happened, there is evidence that past crisis have boosted the benefits of implementing strategic sustainability. By picturing a broad and current time horizon, with the pandemic peak already passed by, it allows that this dissertation not only addresses the direct impact of the pandemic crisis and the measures taken as well as the strategic overview of the companies for a post pandemic crisis era. From a diversified sample, which includes the most relevant companies within the SEE, a questionnaire was developed, addressing several managers from different ministries and whose role is related to the areas of strategy or sustainability, which allowed the collection of relevant information based on empirical and current experiences. The results confirm a generalized effect of the crisis on economic, strategic and mainly social aspects. Simultaneously, it is possible to confirm that there has been a change in the importance given to issues related with sustainability, reinforcing the already existing idea of a gain in the strategic relevance of sustainability. This evidence, however, has not yet been transformed into the formulation, elaboration or adaptation of new strategies.
