The textile industry has a huge impact on everyone's life, employs millions of people around the world and is the reason for major economic transactions across the planet. However, it is one of the most polluting industries and, over the years, its negative impact has become increasingly visible due to phenomena such as fast fashion. Taking these factors into account and given that the area of sustainability has been the scene of many discussions and concerns, it is justified to reflect on and develop the topic in question. The aim of this dissertation is to study the impact of textile production on the environment, as well as to understand what strategies can be used to reduce the negative impact of this sector. Starting by introducing the concept of sustainability, going through the textile sector chain, and then looking at how they are interconnected, as well as the social and financial implications. Subsequently, the case of a Portuguese textile company was studied through an interview and a questionnaire, which allowed the analysis of performance indicators related to environmental, social and governance sustainability. In conclusion, textile companies recognize that they are experiencing a new business perspective, even if there are some obstacles in applying new strategies. Even so, Portuguese companies are continuously learning in order to reduce the negative impact of the sector.
