Nowadays, one of the challenges education is facing is to prepare individuals for a complex and continuously changing global society based on knowledge, by promoting a range of opportunities that lead students to work with the support of the Internet. With the increased use of social media in everyday life, teaching should not be drifted apart from the role it plays in the communication paradigm. Furthermore, taking into account that going online is part of the students’ routine, it is essential to use the opportunities this presents. Thus, this research focuses on the creation of a study site (digital platform), on social media and on the change that these may produce on teaching and learning and on the construction of musical education and musical/ear training knowledge and skills, specifically with 6th grade music students. This experimental study was framed for a methodological design supported a case study with second degree students (class D) attending the Music Academy of Viana do Castelo, during a term/three months and outside the classroom. This was done so that the contents established for the subject would not be overlooked, allowing students to study outside the classroom. The data was gathered by analysing the students’ (participants) questionnaire, as well as the interactions involved in social media, having as a main aim that the students did their musical training worksheets on a digital platform. The results show that, for most of the students who participated on the study, it improved learning of musical/ear training. A large community was created and it showed a collaborative spirit, and above all, increasing informal learning. With this project it was possible to develop important knowledge skills.
