Abstract

The present article integrates the research project entitled “The use of the Software SmartMusic to support the study of the subject of instrument (horn)”, implemented at Academia de Música de Viana do Castelo (AMVC) during the academic year of 2017/2018. In this project I intended to give an answer to the research question “Which advantages may come from using the programe SmartMusic as a tool to complement the individual practice of an instrument, for both students’ and teacher’s pedagogical practice?” through the following research goals: (i) to understand if the software is a tool that allows the improvement of the quality of the students’ individual practice; (ii) to analyze if the software contributes to increase the students’ motivation to have a more regular practice routine; (iii) to analyze if the implementation of the SmartMusic in the support for the individual practice allows the level of the students’ performance to increase. Therefore, for this research project, several data collecting techniques were used, such as the participant-observation, field notes, surveys through questionnaires to the students, and the recording of the classes and the individual practice of the student. With the aims of this project, I intended that the students would develop both in terms of pedagogical skills, as well as performing skills and social and emotional skills, through the implementation of the information and communication technologies in the process of teaching and learning, With this research project it was possible to conclude that the program can be an essential tool in the teaching and learning process of the students in the described context, since by being an instrument of the new information and communication technologies strand, it has the potential of motivating the students to accomplish a more regular practice of the instrument.
