This dissertation’s purpose is to analyze the validity of the functional content in the performance appraisal, through the verification of the corporative competencies’ portfolio used by Rangel Internacional Aérea e Marítima, considering the daily tasks of the sales force. With this aim, a qualitative research was developed through a case study using a survey and an interview as data collection techniques. The results show that the reality reported by the employees is in accordance with the existing job descriptions and that, although the account executives have some tasks that the inside sales representative don’t have, the basis is similar so the required competencies are the same. Regarding competencies, it can be concluded that, in a certain way, the competencies were properly identified by Rangel. However, the behaviors defined for each one are in a large number, too vague, general and unspecific. The main limitations of this study were that it is necessary to adjust the investigation to the timings of the context in which the research was developed, the difficulty of collecting enough information to achieve the goals and the interviewed population. For future investigations, the suggestions are performing this analysis cyclically in order to check whether there are changes that should be introduced and to extend this study to the other jobs of Rangel Internacional Aérea e Marítima or, even, to the whole Grupo Rangel to obtain more consistent results.
