Abstract

This study presents research focused on the shared experience in the execution of aliteracy project for the elderly, carried out in the city of Varjão, Brasília, DF. Its purposeis to contribute to the minimization of problems that arise in work relationships and insocial practices arising from the illiteracy that plagues Brazilian society. In this context, there is great concern about the results of statistics that show Brazil as a country with many illiterate people aged 60 and over who still have the will to carry out some productive activity. Aware that the elderly person affected by illiteracy is a serious social problem, the study is guided by the objective of presenting a reflection on the importance of education programs for elderly people as a means of motivation for new perspectives in life. As for the research methodology, the qualitative approach was chosen, with direct collection of verbal data, through focus groups, conversations, and personal testimonies with the elderly participants. The theoretical framework is supported by other research, which are found in electronic databases such as SCIELO, in addition to books and scientific articles on the subject. The research allowed us to glimpse a substantial interstice of new possibilities, attitudes and practices on the part of the elderly, students,in search of a quality life, socially committed. In addition, it was found that the Education of Young and adults people elderly is constituted as a teaching modality capable of extending itself in advantages over regular education since it responds to the demands of today's society, to the needs of people from older people who did not have the opportunityto study when they were younger. In this way, it is concluded that the teaching developed through the Social Project of the city of Varjão-DF consists in a contemporary trend that stands out as a decisive alternative for the democratization of education in Brazil and in the world.
