Abstract

Skills Management is today a topic of increasing importance in the Human Resource Management. Verifying that the schools and, in particular universities, prepare citizens for the market, giving increased attention to the value of another area of competences, commonly known as soft skills. In a competitive global society the proficuous articulation between the university and enterprises is a relevant factor for the prestige of Higher Education Institutions and marketing strategy communication that comes with it. In this context, the management of skills developed in their students and the identification of skills that the market is requesting is an area of substantial importance that only a sophisticated IT platform support can support. This work developed in the framework of Final Masters Project, in the form of internship report, has as main purpose the identification of the essential requirements for a Higher Education Institution (HEI) to adopt a platform that supports the student’s management skills. Based on the Soft Systems Methodology (SSM) the internship enabled to form a theoretical framework on Skills Management in order to understand the relevance of this topic in modern and global institutions, but also, to study its particular relevance in the Higher Education Institutions in the present context. Additionally allowed the identification of software platforms that aim to facilitate the Skills Management through its measurement and evaluation. Though the case of School of Economics and Management of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, overall requirements were identified for the suitability of the Matchinglab to a HEI. The path summarized here led to the conclusion, for the viability to adapt the Machinglab proposal, by identifying levels of integration of information, access profiles, and organizational impacts to the context of the HEI, the platform is adopted and adapted.
