The Word of God is an integral part of Church’s life. In the liturgical celebrations, the announcement of the Word has earned a dignity of its own, which is reflected in the rites, mainly in the Gospel proclamation, and in the place where it is proclaimed, the ambo. With the appreciation of the preaching and the exaltation of Christ’s real presence in the eucharistic species, this part of the Eucharist starts to lose its importance, leading to the progressive disappearance of the ambo. Thanks to the Liturgical Movement, there will be a greater perception of the Liturgy of the Word, making way to the liturgical reformation of the II Vatican Council. This reformation has brought back the Liturgy of the Word as an indispensable part of the Eucharistic celebration, making a whole with the Liturgy of the Eucharist. The lectionary’s reformation allowed the faithful to have access to the Bible’s treasures in a more abundant way. This context has contributed to the resurgence and rediscovery of the ambo, not only as a functional place, but as a true pole of the liturgical space, the place of the announcement of resurrection. For that reason, it presents a symbolic value and a pascal iconography and iconology that “speaks” beyond the liturgical celebrations.
