Abstract

The following report presents the author’s internship program at Bosch Termotecnologia SA - Aveiro, in the Logistics Department, from September 2014 to February 2015. It focusses on Lean’s business philosophy, reviewing concepts such as Toyota Production System, Lean Management, Lean Thinking, Lean office, as well as tools and Lean methodologies, which companies use for more efficient management by increasing productivity through waste elimination. This work was carried out in Bosch Termotecnologia SA, which belongs to BOSCH International Group, in the Logistics Department LOG 9. LOG 9 is the department responsible for all project management and for the coordination and implementation of continuous improvement projects (BPS and Lean Management). The project completed by the author, entitled Application of Lean Management Methodologies in Support Processes, results from a challenge launched by Bosh with the objective of comparing the alignment between the maturity level of the Lean Management project based on the department's self- evaluation, on the Lean department objectives and the logistics department employees’ evaluation in December 2014. This was accomplished by a survey carried out by the author (based on an evaluation document from Lean Department) involving all the logistic department employees. After statistical processing of the survey results and comparing with the other aspects analysed, we were able to conclude through the analysed data that there is a wide gap between the maturity of the tools of all parties involved, and that on the other hand, the objectives outlined by the Lean Department were not achieved. Having reached this conclusion, new directions and suggestions were presented in order to overcome all the problems raised by the employees, a better alignment between all parties involved in the process and finally a rapid realization of Lean’s project objectives and maturity level.
