Abstract

This work is a theoretically supported reflection about a significant and enriching experience from my professional pathway, while a primary teacher, and also from my personal life path. This experience took place over two academic years, in the early 90’s, at Bela Vista school, Gondomar, and it was pointed and by a general will from the school teachers to search for a new work philosophy; to change and innovate the teaching and learning previously established at Bela Vista school. The starting point of this wave of change, and also which allowed kept it running, was the investigation project Teaching is Researching (Ensinar é Investigar) whose implementation and development was sponsored by the Institute of Educational Innovation (Instituto de Inovação Educacional). In this critical reflection the narration of the suffered and enjoyed dynamics over these two years is done in association with its elucidation and interpretation in light of the theoretical frameworks from science education. These dynamics were mainly characterized by collaborative and collective work, by training in-situation, by analysis and by refection and by processes of supervision, and overall contributed to my professional development and for the (re)construction of my professional identity. This experience was also put into the global political context. Overall this reflective work and its associated study brought up some important points for the development of a school that aims educational success for all students. In addition, essential aspects for the teachers work also emerged from the work here presented.
